What is an IP address?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a numerical label networks use to identify an interface and route traffic. The public address websites see may belong to your router, mobile carrier, workplace gateway, or VPN server and can be shared by multiple devices. IPv4 uses a dotted-number format; IPv6 uses a longer hexadecimal format.
Can someone find my exact location from my IP?
No. IP geolocation is approximate. It typically identifies your city or region, but not your street address or building. The accuracy depends on how your ISP allocates addresses. In rural areas, it may only identify the nearest town.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

How can I hide my IP address?

Is my IP address information stored on this site?
IP Jokes detects the address in real time through Cloudflare and returns the result to your browser. Our application code does not save the detected value in a database or custom analytics event. Cloudflare and Google Analytics process connection data as described in our privacy policy.
Why does the map location look wrong?
IP geolocation relies on databases that map IP ranges to locations. These databases are imperfect, especially for mobile connections, VPNs, and rural ISPs. The marker shows an approximate area, not a precise pin. If you're using a VPN, the map will show the VPN server's location instead of yours.
